DAMN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES

Damn These Circumstances

You’re looking as you’ve looked before, you’re screaming at the room
your eyes all red like in your head on a cold sunny autumn afternoon
and you felt safe inside a winters coat tho you were barely there
throwing obscenities like punches sentiments beyond repair
i don’t wana hold my tongue- yeah i hope that you hurt

and i don’t know if this would stand up in court
but what i swear i heard you say was
‘Goddamn these circumstances- and god
goddamn you anyway’

and yes you’re seething like the critics might and pulling on your hair
d’you pound your fists into your pillow when no-ones standing there
but if it helps i see what you mean, like an angry football player
there’s only verbs no adjectives because there’s only action here

i don’t wana hold my tongue- yeah i hope that you hurt

and i don’t know if this would stand up in court
but what i swear i heard you say was
‘Goddamn these circumstances- and god
goddamn you anyway’

and the whole time, we were thinking
breathe in breathe out-breathe in breathe out
but still your mouth moves like

‘Goddamn these circumstances- and god
goddamn you
( i wish i’d never come here, i wish i’d never laid eyes on you
god damn these circumstances and god-damn- you)
